SA8000 (SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY 8000)

SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY 8000 (SA8000)
SA 8000 is an international certification standard that encourages organizations to develop, maintain and apply socially acceptable practices in the workplace.
Since its creation in 1989, the Social Accountability International (SAI) organization, an affiliate of the Council on Economic Priorities, is viewed as the most globally accepted independent workplace standard. The SA 8000 standard can be applied to any company, of any size, worldwide.
SA 8000 certification addresses issues including forced and child labor, occupational health and safety, freedom of association and collective bargaining, discrimination, disciplinary practices, working hours, compensation, and management systems.
As well as setting workplace standards worldwide, SA 8000 also embraces existing international agreements, including conventions from the International Labor Organization, the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Adopting SA 8000 certification means an organization must consider the social impact of their operations in addition to the conditions under which their employees, partners and suppliers operate. It can be applied to any company, of any size, worldwide. Certifying your organization against SA 8000 with an SGS audit will help you develop and improve social accountability across your operations. FSC (FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL)

Forest Stewardship Council
The FSC chain of custody (CoC) is the path taken by products from the forest, or in the case of recycled materials from the moment when the material is reclaimed, to the point where the product is sold with an FSC claim and/or it is finished and FSC labelled. The CoC includes each stage of sourcing, processing, trading, and distribution where progress to the next stage of the supply chain involves a change of product ownership.
Any change of ownership in the supply chain of FSC-certified products requires the establishment of effective CoC management systems at the level of the respective organization and their verification by an independent FSC-accredited certification body, if the organization wants to make an FSC claim about their products.
FSC certification of such management systems is designed to provide a credible assurance that products which are sold with an FSC claim originate from well-managed forests, controlled sources, reclaimed materials, or a mixture of these. FSC CoC certification thereby facilitates the transparent flow of goods made from such materials through the supply chain.

Requirements of FSC CoC

Part I: Universal Requirements
Part II: Control of FSC Claims
Part III: Supplementary Requirements
Part IV: Eligibility Criteria for Single, Multi-Site and Group CoC Certification

Benefits of FSC CoC

Only FSC CoC certified operations are allowed to label products with the FSC Trademarks. The FSC label provides a credible link between responsible production and consumption, enabling consumers and businesses to make purchasing decisions that benefit people and the environment as well as providing ongoing business value.

Other benefits for a company with FSC CoC certified products include:
  • Improved market access in an increasingly environmentally aware sector.
  • Demonstrate that you take the environmental concerns of your customers seriously.
  • Compliance with public or private procurement policies and specifications such as the EU Ecolabel scheme for furniture, or the U.S. Green Building Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system.

TAPA (TRANSPORTED ASSET PROTECTION ASSOCIATION)

TAPA is a unique forum that unites global manufacturers, logistics providers, freight carriers, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders with the common aim of reducing losses from international supply chains.

These unique, minimum security requirements have been created by the industry, for the industry and are revised every three years in consultation with TAPA’s members and approved Independent Audit Bodies (IABs) to ensure they are fit-for-purpose to address all current and emerging supply chain security risks, and to identify improvements which optimise the Standards’ effectiveness and efficiency for global supply chains.

TAPA offers 3 industry standards:

  • FSR – Facility Security Requirements
  • TSR – Trucking Security Requirements
  • PSR – Parking Security Requirements

TAPA’s Standards’ programme offers three levels of certification by the Association’s approved Independent Audit Bodies as well as a Self-Certification option. Non-member companies may also achieve certification after completing the appropriate TAPA training course.

TAPA’s Security Standards act as a worldwide benchmark for supply chain security and resilience, providing guidance, processes and tools which reduce loss exposure, protect assets, help to keep staff safe, and save costs. This is achieved by introducing and maintaining common standards for supply chain security measures.

Users of the Standards are certified by many Independent Audit Bodies which ensures certifications are meaningful and can be trusted. Support for organisations using the TAPA Standards comes from within the supply chain industry, by Government agencies and the insurance industry.
